Curriculum Vitae

Vasylyna Kharchevka (* 23.06.1992) is an Ukrainian freelance stage and costume designer, living in Bergen, Norway. As a scenographer, she has a lot of knowledge and experience from theater and film industry. Vasylyna can master all aspects of stage design from planning, creating technical drawings to building models true to scale. This also includes planning, sketches and construction of costumes, props, paintings and drawings. During her studies and various projects she learned how to work with stage and backstage of theaters of different sizes, from planning phase to practical implementation and full-scale production.

She has both experience as leading stage designer as well as assistant, where she grasps the opportunity to contribute with her experience and at the same time enjoys learning something new to improve her knowledge. She lives for solving the challenges where the script meets the physical limitations of a stage. Vasylyna is working well as independent individual and as well as part of a production-team where she can take orders from colleagues and instruct technical staff.

Education

Vasylyna has a master degree in stage design from the Academy of Performing Arts in Prague, Czech Republic from 2018. There she received a detailed basis on scenography, costume design, art, modeling and many practical skills such as process of planning and conducting a theater performance. For her master project Jevgenij Zamyatin "We" she got the 2018 Dean Award as well as the 2014 Dean Award for her bachelor project Carl Orff "Die Kluge" from the Academy of Performing Arts in Prague. From 2011 to 2013 Vasylyna was studying at The National Academy of Fine Arts and Architecture in Kyiv, Ukraine. There she learned about academical painting, drawing and anatomy. In addition to her education, she also has practical experience from various theatre projects at Czech and Norwegian theaters.

Experience

In Norway, Vasylyna collaborates with Bergen National Opera (BNO), Det Vestnorske Teateret (DVT), Den Nationale Scene (DNS), and Fyllingsdalen Teater. At BNO, she is working as a stage designer on the opera "Nattfolket" (2026). At DVT, she is the stage designer for "Den utrolige historien om den kjempestore pæra" (2025). At DNS, she worked as a stage and puppet designer for the musical "Shockheaded Peter" (2023/2024). At Fyllingsdalen Teater, she has worked as a stage designer for several productions: "Spellemann på taket" (2025), "Gangster Granny" (2023), "Frida Fryktløs" (2022), "Zappzarapp" (2022), "Hekseringen" (2020), and "Askepott" (2019). She also worked as stage and costume designer for the open-air musical "Skjebnar ved kysten" in Austevoll (2022/2023). Additionally, she has worked as a freelance decorator and painter on several projects, such as "Svartnissen" at Ole Bull Scene (2019), a children’s performance at Pinocchio Musikk og Drama (2019), and "Ulverock" at Fyllingsdalen Teater (2019/2020). Vasylyna has also worked as a painter and decorator in the workshops at Den Nationale Scene and Fyllingsdalen Teater in Bergen. She completed an Erasmus+ internship in 2017 at the Nationaltheatret in Oslo, where she was an assistant stage and costume designer for the production of "As You Like It" by W. Shakespeare. She also worked as stage manager and assistant stage designer for the Miniøya Festival (2017) and as stage designer for a UNICEF project (2017). In Prague, she worked as a stage designer at Kolowrat Theatre for the performance "Eigengrau" by P. Skinner (2016), and at DISK Theatre for "The Drunk Ones" by I. Vyrypajev (2015). In addition, Vasylyna participated as a set designer for Bergenfest (2023), and as set and costume designer for several short films, including "A Thousand Cranes" (2016, FAMU in Prague) and "Prizefight" (2019, Noroff School, Bergen), which received a Diamond Award. She also has experience with commercial projects, such as the Pierre Robert clothing collections: Hanneli Wool Collection and Young Collection Wool (2017), Oslo.

In Prague, she was working as stage designer in Kolowrat theatre for the performance "Eigengrau" P. Skinner (2016) and in the theatre DISK for the performance "The drunk ones" I. Vyrypajev (2015).

At the same time, Vasylyna was participating as set designer for "Bergenfest" (2023), set and costume designer for short movies such as: "A thousand cranes" (2016), FAMU in Prague and a student movie at Noroff skole in Bergen, "Prizefight" (2019) which got a Diamond Award. Vasylyna also has experience from commercial projects, such as Pierre Robert cloth collection, "Hanneli wool collection" and "Young Collection Wool" (2017), Oslo.

Volunteer work

Vasylyna has worked as festival assistant at Festspillene i Bergen and Children Red Cross Fyllingsdalen (2019). She was also volunteering as stage designer for various student- and low budget-projects.
